Study Task 2: The National Gallery

On Saturday the 19th of January visited the National Gallery in London for the very first time.

I had looked up the current exhibitions before getting to the gallery and had already decided that I wanted to see the Impressionist exhibition as that is one of my favourite art movements.

However, before going to the exhibit, I decided to look at some paintings from the Renaissance Era to the late Edwardian Era. I found that an  artist named William Hogarth did a series of paintings that told a story of to young nobles who were reluctant to marry each other;

It's interesting that an artist thought about telling a story in this way; not with one painting but with several, sort of like a beautifully painted comic strip.

I also got to see the original work of my favourite Impressionist artist; Edgar Degas:

Degas was fascinated by everyday life and he loved to capture the natural movement of humans. Most of his work in centred on ballet dancers, more specifically when they were practising or resting, sketching them when they were chatting to each other, stretching or just relaxing after practising their routine. Degas was fascinated by movement and not so much the finer details, something to keep in mind as an animator.
