I can't believe this year is over! It has gone so quick!
I have learned so much from just this one year animating and has really made me feel that I am on my way to becoming a professional animator.
Although this year has been fun and a big learning curb for me, it hasn't been without its hardships as well. Living away from my home and family has been so hard and I have definitely been homesick a few times, not to mention I'm a country girl coming into a huge city, so I've had a bit of a culture shock as well!
However, overall I have had a wonderful experience meeting new people, learning new skills and even being pushed out of my comfort zone.
I've done things this year that I never thought I would be able to; like give presentations.
Even though I was still quite nervous about giving the presentation, it wasn't nearly as daunting as I had already done this before and just knowing that this would be a much smaller room made things feel a lot easier.
I wrote everything I wanted to say on sheets of A4 paper clipped together so that I would get them muddled around but in the end, it seems that I didn't need them. I don't remember looking down at my notes once and I felt so much more comfortable talking to a room of people, although I did notice that I was giggling a lot which was probably my brain dealing with the nerves.
I felt so much more relaxed about this presentation and even though I think I could have put a few more personal points into it I feel like it won't be so hard to do presentations anymore.

Disseminate Presentation
The Incredibles 2 Presentation
I choose to do a presentation on "The Incredibles 2" because it is something that I have been looking forward to and following for as long as it had been announced (almost 10 years ago).
The return of one of Pixar's beloved franchises after almost a fifteen-year hiatus is exciting; with updated animation and a returning voice cast and director, let's just hope that the long-awaited film is up to the hype.
Even though I was talking about something I am very passionate about, the utter fear I felt that I would need to get up and talk to a room of almost forty people was almost unbearable. I have a severe social anxiety disorder and I find it difficult to talk to a couple of strangers let alone a whole room of them.
When the day the presentation came, I was so nervous that I kept going over my flashcards even though I had practised it several times before. I had asked to go first so that I could get it over with as quickly as possible, so when it was my turn I was shaking, sweating and my throat was scratchy. When I spoke I could tell that my voice was shaking and it was obvious that I was scared, which in turn made me more anxious. I had messed up the order of my flashcards so I started to just repeat stuff that I had memorised and then before I knew it, I had done it!
After everyone had finished clapping and I had sat down, I got a huge adrenaline rush so I was still shaking; not from the nerves but from the high.
It was nice to talk about something that I was truly passionate about and that I knew people would also enjoy hearing about and even though the whole experience was absolutely terrifying at first, it wasn't nearly as scary as I thought it would be so the next one should be a lot easier.

Practitioners who Inspire me
1. Glen Keane
Glen Keane is American animator, best known for his works in Disney animated features like "Beauty and the Beast", "Aladdin", "The Little Mermaid" and many more.
He began working for Disney in 1973 and continued to work there for almost 38 years. He was trained under one of Disney's original "Nine Old Men", Frank Thomas and has become one of the company's most well-known character animators.
He returned to Disney in 2010 to work as head Animation Supervisor and Character Designer on "Tangled" alongside his daughter Claire Keane.
Glen Keane has always been a huge inspiration to me, as he has been for many other animators. The first Disney film I ever watched was "The Little Mermaid" and from a very young age Ariel has always stuck with me and has been one of the main inspirations for most of my own work. Glen Keane has defined the Disney style for the past 30 years and he is the reason I wanted to become an animator.
2. Rebecca Sugar
Rebecca Sugar is the creator and developer of Cartoon Network's "Steven Universe".
Before her debut, she worked at Cartoon Network as a storyboard artist, story and songwriter for "Adventure Time" and was working on a pilot for "Steven Universe" as she worked on the show.
She is very involved with the production of "Steven Universe", serving as one of the shows storyboard artists and writers, as well as being the head songwriter for the show.
I truly admire Rebecca Sugar's work, both on "Adventure Time" and of course "Steven Universe". She has set the bar for modern-day cartoons with both complex storylines and characters that get you so invested in the show. The show tackles love, same-sex relationship, loss, war, mental illness and so much more. I have never been so invested in a show before this one, I'm always so excited to see what the characters will do next and what challenges might lie ahead for them. Her work made me what to create my own T.V series and tell my own story.
3. Viviene Medrano (aka Vivziepop)
Vivziepop is an illustrator and animator who graduated from New York's School of Visual Arts. Since graduating she has made a name for herself on Youtube after she posted her fan-made animated music video "Die Young" and her webcomic "Zoophobia". She is currently working on her own crowdfunded animation project "The Hazbin Hotel" which due to release at the end of 2018 or at the beginning of 2019.
Viviene Medrano was one of the first internet animators I found on Youtube and made me realise how much someone could learn and achieve after finishing University. Her bright and fluid animations concreated my choice to study animation once I got older and three years after I discovered her that's exactly what I did.
4. Daron Nefcy
Daron Nefcy is the creator and head writer of "Star vs the Forces of Evil". She is the second woman to create a television series for the Disney Channel and the first for Disney XD.
She was born in California, Los Angeles, studied at CalArts and came up with the character Star Butterfly while studying at college.
She also worked on "Wonder over Yonder" and "Robot and Monster" at Disney.
I really adore the characters in Daron Nefcy, Star is a character that I would have definitely looked up to; she's weird and quirky but very real and in the latest season she has been forced to grow up suddenly and very quickly. Daron Nefcy is stellar story writer and character developer, she has inspired me to create more in-depth characters of my own and to give them more interesting backstories.
5. Rebecca Parham
Rebecca Parham is an internet comedian and animator who
has made a name for herself on Youtube creating animated stories and shorts.
Before Youtube, she studied at Ringling Art and Design College in California and majored in 3D Computer Animation and minored in Business in Art and Design.
In 2011, after graduating, Rebecca was convinced by her parents to create her own studio instead of going off to work for big name studios. After a couple of years, she came up with the name "Let Me Explain Studios" and in 2014 she created her Youtube account.
She did a lot of freelance illustrations and animations but worked on Youtube in her spare time. In 2017, she had gathered 500,000 subscribers and was able to work as a full-time.
Rebecca Parham has a unique but simple style, which makes her stories and shorts so entertaining. Even though her animation is very simple, she has a way of conveying emotions into her characters without the need to use mouths and instead, she uses very extreme poses to tell her stories and it's so inspiring to hear how she started from the ground up. She makes me more inspired to be an animator and to work on my own projects.
6. Walt Disney
Walt Disney was a pioneer for modern animation. He was the first man to create the world's first full length animated feature in colour; "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs" and from there he had made the name Walt Disney Studios a household name.
He created Walt Disney studios in 1923, where he created Mickey Mouse cartoons like "Steamboat Willie" and animated musical shorts called "Silly Symphonies".
In 1934, Walt Disney began work on "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs", he was told he was mad to try and create a feature-length animated film that was coloured, voiced and had sound effects. The film was dubbed as "Disney's Folly", as many thought it would be the end of his studios and many try to convince him to pull out of the project, including his wife but he kept at it and just three years later he had created the worlds first full-length animated feature.
Disney went on to create many more animated films in his lifetime "Pinnochio", "Sleeping Beauty" and "Cinderella". When he died he left not only a hole in the animation world but a legacy, his studios upkeep his values and standards; to create magical and inspiring works of moving art.
Walt Disney is a legend, there is no animator alive who hasn't been affected by this man. He is the embodiment of a 'rags to riches' story; through his hard work and determination, he created his own empire and his own world.
Even though he had died over 30 years before I was born his work, his name and his story has been a big part of my life and has shown me with a bit of hard work and determination you really can make your dreams come true.
